Welcome to the Jungle

If you are looking for a plant that gives you privacy, and smells divine when it's blooming, consider adding Jasmine to your landscape.  I can't take any credit for the great planning or planting of the previous owner, but he was brilliant.  Because of the layout of our backyard, the previous owner had the vision to plant this for privacy on the deck.  I am so glad he did!!  I really am not sure how long ago it was planted, but this is our second summer to enjoy it.

Here is a few pictures when it was in full bloom!  These were a few photos I had taken to send my parents.  You could smell the the divine fragrance down to the street below our house.  It's hard to tell from this picture, but there is a house across the street.  It gives us great privacy.

I gave it a good trim a few days before we left for our vacation, and was shocked to see how much it had grown during our absence.  My Jack Russell, Baby, wanted her picture taken, too!

The brown bench she is standing on is another summer project that I still haven't gotten around to painting, yet.

With all the wonderful benefits this Jasmine provides, there is one downside.  It grows like crazy, and actually with our mild winters has some growth even then.   It truly was like a jungle out there!!!

It was taking over the chairs!

It seriously had gone crazy!!  It thrives in our hot, humid southern summers.

The other downside is when you have to trim it.  The sap is like glue.  It will ruin your clothes, and takes a good scrub to remove it from your skin!

To get the full effect of just how huge these plants are, I included photos of our steps so you can see how tall it really is!  Our deck is about 10 feet off the ground, or so my hubby says anyway!!  LOL

There is only one little section that it hasn't covered, yet and I am working on that area.  I've been weaving the longer growth through the remaining uncovered area.  It's almost there!  Don't worry....l am going to leave a hole for Baby's favorite hangout!

Mr. Ed also has his favorite spot, and wasn't very happy I woke him from his nap!  He has to hide from the mean ole Mockingbirds, who constantly taunt the poor kitty!

I wish I could tell you that it is all neatly trimmed,  but I started back to school this week.  They decided our classrooms needed to be painted the week before school started back!  I could not believe the mess my room was in when I returned from vacation.  Now that  my room is finally back in order after working on it all week, I am very thankful to have freshly painted walls!  :)

Thank you so much for stopping by, and checking out my jungle.  Hopefully, I will have tamed it again by Saturday!!  Do you have any Jasmine plants? I would love to hear your story.

Hi Teacher Friend,
What part of the country do you have to live in to grow Jasmine? South? I would love a jungle of that. Your little JR is soooo cute. Is he as smart and ornery as I have heard?

I have Jasmine which the neighbor kindly tore off the fence. :( I'm retraining it on lattice on my side. Love that plant - you're right it smells heavenly! Yours is amazing!

I love jasmine but never had any in the houses we lived in. I always thought the smell was so heavenly and heady. I love how it gives you the privacy you want and yet has beautiful blooms that smell wonderful.

All flowers have a specific meaning in the language of flowers and depending on what type of jasmine you have, the meaning is different. Carolina Jasmine ~ Separation, Indian Jasmine ~ Attachment and White Jasmine ~ amiability. I find it fascinating that each flower means something! :)

Have a great weekend, Kathy :)

Hi! I live in Shreveport, LA. I grew up in MO, and really miss the seasons. LOL What you've heard about JR is so true. She is smart and super onery! She loves people, but hates other dogs. She actually ran a German Shepherd on a porch. :)

Oh, I can't believe your neighbor did that!! I'm glad you were able to keep some of it. It shouldn't take it long to grow back, stronger than ever. :)

Thank you! I just wish it would bloom all year. LOL

I will have to check out the meanings of the flowers. That is so cool. Thanks for sharing that info. That really is fascinating.

Thanks for stopping by, and hope you have a great weekend, too! HUGS

So glad I finally found your blog. No clue why I was having trouble finding it, but I was. Anyway, thanks so much for following my blog, & I'm now following you back.

Just an FYI, I was born & raised in West Monroe, LA, & lived there until I was 12.

I have Jasmine growing on an archway near the loungeroom window. It smells beautiful. Yours is amazing, the smell around your outdoor area would be gorgeous and it looks wonderful behind your garden furniture. We had a JR, she would go crazy when other dogs went past the house, very protective and always trying to fight above her weight!
Thankyou for linking up with Open Garden :)

Our JR does the same thing!! She goes crazy when she sees another dog. She actually ran a German Shepherd on a porch. LOL

Thank you so much for hosting. HUGS

I never knew that about Jasmine and I have been warned! You stopped me from wanting it when you said it was like glue when you cut it ... I have enough stuff that ruins my clothes LOL Thank you for sharing with us at The "Sunday Stop"! I love "Baby" what a cutie!

Your so right about how fast Jasmine grows.
I like yours but have one question, do you
get many bugs/bees on the deck? My neighbor
has the same and three times a year he must
cut it back, a lot!
Great shots and good luck with the new
school year.

You must have a lake close by, saw it thru the jasmine from the one deck picture. Heaven. I'm a water nut. LOve your deck and plants but the jasmine can be very invasive. I don't know where you live but when we lived in KY we had honey suckle all over the place. There was a little stream between our back yard and farm land next door so the honey suckle grew like crazy. Had hostas under all of it also we found when we finally got to do some trimming. Think we only had to water lawn once in five years we lived there but what humidity. Pretty hard to live with for a person used to very dry climate and I have allergies, asthma and arthritis, not a good combo with the that kind of weather.

Where we live now, just a few miles east of Utah border in CO (west of Grand Junction) we have alot of alcali, hard to grow anything out here. I'm still hoping my lilacs will bloom someday or year.
