Spring Yarn Wreath with Burlap Flowers

I decided it was time to pack away all of the winter decor and start thinking spring!!  I was so excited when I saw the pool noodles were back in the store.  So of course, I stocked up on those.  They are my favorite base for making wreaths.  I bought some of the very large and medium sized noodles.  I couldn't wait to get busy making my first wreath for spring.  Actually, I made 3 of them.  One for my front door, my deck, and one for my classroom.

Here is the one that I made for my front door.

Spring yarn wreath with burlap flowers and bunting tutorial, fabric stiffener, how to, diy

For this one, I used the large pool noodle, yarn, and white burlap.  I had a lot of the white burlap and needed to do something with it.

pool noodle wreath how to

I love using the pool noodles because they are so easy to work with, and the floral pins work great with them.  I cut about 4 inches off of this one, and I always slide a straightened out wire hanger through the noodle.  The hanger helps it to keep its shape.  I placed each end of the hanger through both of the holes inside the noodle.  Then use duct tape to hold it together.

Then comes the most time-consuming part of the whole project,  Wrapping the yarn around the noodle.  My cat decided this was his favorite project ever, and really helped me a lot.  : )

I taped the yarn to the noodle and started wrapping.  I tried several different ways, but the fastest for me was to just wrap straight from the ball of yarn.  Once I was finally finished with the wrapping, I tied it off at the back of the wreath.

To make the burlap flowers, I added fabric stiffener to the burlap.  I  placed scraps of burlap on wax paper.   I diluted the stiffener a little with water, and used a sponge brush to apply it heavily to the burlap.  I let it dry overnight.  It was ready to go the next morning.

burlap with fabric stiffener how to

The photo below shows why I love to use the fabric stiffener.  It makes the burlap cut clean, and there is no unraveling unlike the above photo before the stiffener was applied.  You can also shape and bend the flowers  this way.

burlap with fabric stiffener

I just randomly cut out flower petals in all shapes and sizes.   Once I had the petals cut out, I used floral pins to hold them in place on the wreath.

Here's the up close photo of the flower.

I used several floral pins on each flower.  Once I was happy with the flowers, I hot glued old earrings to the center of the flowers.  I couldn't believe I found 4 old earrings that matched the color of the yarn.

To make the bunting, I cut triangles out of the stiffened burlap and hot glued them to the yarn.  I added some scrapbooking appliques to spell out spring.

That is my first spring wreath.  I will be sharing the other two wreaths soon.  I made a cute little bunny wreath for my classroom that I love.  Thank you so much for stopping by for a visit.  I hope you have a wonderful crafty week!

Quick and Easy Decorative Wicker Storage Basket Makeover

Hi, friends!  Today I am sharing my wicker storage basket makeover.  My mother gave me this basket back in the fall, and it has been wonderful place to store my craft supplies in that I use often.  It is the perfect size to hold  a lot of "stuff", but didn't look so great in my family room.  So, I decided to give it a makeover that would blend in with my decor.

A Bouquet of Talent Link Party #23

It's party time once again!!  I hope you are all having a great weekend.  I had all kinds of plans for today, but have done none of them.   Yesterday, I shared about my computer dilemmas.  I actually think I was delirious by the time I finished that post last night.   Well, my computer is fine and back in business.  I wish I could say the same for my husband's computer.

For some reason, his computer would not restart after the updates.  I had to do a total factory restore on the darn thing.  I saved everything to a DVD, but most everything was gone!!!  I've spent most of the day re-installing everything on his computer.  He has zero patience for anything like that, so guess who gets to do it all??  :)

I can't wait to see what you've been working on this week.  If you missed the Pick of  the Bunch Fabulous Features, you can see those here.  There were so many wonderful link ups that you don't want to miss.

Pick of the Bunch Friday Fabulous Features # 22

Hi, everyone!  Well, I didn't quite make it to post the Fabulous Friday Pick of the Bunch on Friday.  My computer decided about 4:00 today that it needed to do a Windows Critical Update without my consent!  How dare it!!  When it restarted, my Norton anti-virus wasn't working.  So, I have spent hours installing and re-stalling programs.  Norton also decided it needed to update with a new format!!  I think everything is finally back in order.  Phew!!!  My husband's computer also updated, and I am still trying to get his working!

I want to thank you all for sharing with us last week at A Bouquet of Talent!   You always amaze me each week with your fabulous projects and yummy dishes.   You can check out all of the posts from last week here.  Tomorrow I will feature the most viewed post at the party!

Last Minute Valentine's Day Bouquet of Candy Gift and Printable

Are you still looking for that perfect last minute Valentine's Day gift to say I love you?  You can't go wrong when it includes chocolate, or at least with my husband and children.  This is a super quick and easy gift that can be made in no time at all.  The one in this post is for my husband.  Hershey's are his all-time favorite.  Plus, I was able to use some more of my Dollar Tree goodies.
The milk glass vase is one of my cherished pieces that belonged to grandmother.  Another gift idea would be to use a special vase as part of the gift with the candy.
I still have to get busy tonight and finish the one for my son.  He loves Reese's, so he is getting a clear vase filled with miniature Reese's and then the large Reese's at the top like the one below.

The best thing about this project is that it can be used for any occasion!

Valentine's Vignette with The Dollar Tree Decor

So here's my problem with the Dollar Tree, I go in there to pick a few items and come out with 4 bagfuls of great goodies!  Did I actually save any money?  My hubby would definitely tell you no, but I have lots of fun stuff to decorate with.  Actually we were on our way to dinner, and I told my husband I need to run in Dollar Tree for just a few minutes.  Luckily, he knows me way better than that, and as long as he has his sports talk on the radio, he could careless except for the fact he was starving!!  I tried to explain to him how much money I saved him, but he didn't buy that either.  :)
I always get in there and find so many cute little things for my classroom or just fun stuff to use around the house.  I didn't get to finish half of the things that I purchased, but at least I have a great head start for next year!
Sorry for the lighting on these photos.  Normally, I have sunlight coming through the front door, but it has rained everyday since I've tried taking these pics.  I am giving up on the perfect lighting and posting.

Valentine's Paper Heart Tutorial

Hello, friends!  Today I am going old school and sharing the paper Valentine's heart holder that I make in my classroom every year.  These are a fun alternative to the decorated shoe box.  The students love it, because they've never seen these before.  They have so much fun decorating them.
The list is endless in the way these paper hearts can be used.  Usually, I let my students decorate them with paper hearts they've cut out, and I write their name on the front.  It's amazing just how many Valentine cards and candy these hearts will hold.
They are so easy to make.

This year I got creative and  made a bouquet of hearts to fill with candy and notes.

Winter Pine Cone Trees

I am finally getting around to finishing this post on my winter pine cone trees.    After Christmas, I decided I wanted to keep out a few of my  pine cone trees and use them for my winter decor.  I shared the tutorial on how to make these before Thanksgiving.  If you missed the tutorial, you can see that here.  They are super easy to make, and great decorations for fall and Christmas.

A Bouquet of Talent Link Party #21

It's is party time once again!   I hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend.   I'm starting the party a little early today.   I still have to go to the store to get all the food ready for the big game tomorrow.  What are your plans for the Super Bowl?

I'm also almost finished with my daughter's vanity.  I've spent most of the day working on that.  I had all these visions for how it should be re-done, but my daughter had other ideas.    Since, it is hers, I had to go with what she wanted.   :)
