Spring Yarn Wreath with Burlap Flowers
I decided it was time to pack away all of the winter decor and start thinking spring!! I was so excited when I saw the pool noodles were back in the store. So of course, I stocked up on those. They are my favorite base for making wreaths. I bought some of the very large and medium sized noodles. I couldn't wait to get busy making my first wreath for spring. Actually, I made 3 of them. One for my front door, my deck, and one for my classroom.
Here is the one that I made for my front door.
For this one, I used the large pool noodle, yarn, and white burlap. I had a lot of the white burlap and needed to do something with it.
I love using the pool noodles because they are so easy to work with, and the floral pins work great with them. I cut about 4 inches off of this one, and I always slide a straightened out wire hanger through the noodle. The hanger helps it to keep its shape. I placed each end of the hanger through both of the holes inside the noodle. Then use duct tape to hold it together.
Then comes the most time-consuming part of the whole project, Wrapping the yarn around the noodle. My cat decided this was his favorite project ever, and really helped me a lot. : )
I taped the yarn to the noodle and started wrapping. I tried several different ways, but the fastest for me was to just wrap straight from the ball of yarn. Once I was finally finished with the wrapping, I tied it off at the back of the wreath.
To make the burlap flowers, I added fabric stiffener to the burlap. I placed scraps of burlap on wax paper. I diluted the stiffener a little with water, and used a sponge brush to apply it heavily to the burlap. I let it dry overnight. It was ready to go the next morning.
The photo below shows why I love to use the fabric stiffener. It makes the burlap cut clean, and there is no unraveling unlike the above photo before the stiffener was applied. You can also shape and bend the flowers this way.
I just randomly cut out flower petals in all shapes and sizes. Once I had the petals cut out, I used floral pins to hold them in place on the wreath.
Here's the up close photo of the flower.
I used several floral pins on each flower. Once I was happy with the flowers, I hot glued old earrings to the center of the flowers. I couldn't believe I found 4 old earrings that matched the color of the yarn.
To make the bunting, I cut triangles out of the stiffened burlap and hot glued them to the yarn. I added some scrapbooking appliques to spell out spring.
That is my first spring wreath. I will be sharing the other two wreaths soon. I made a cute little bunny wreath for my classroom that I love. Thank you so much for stopping by for a visit. I hope you have a wonderful crafty week!

Kathy, this is beautiful! Thanks for the tip of using a pool noodle. I would have never thought of that! I was just thinking today my door could use a spring wreath, and you've inspired me to get going!!
Looks really pretty! I'm loving it and I am definitely gonna use it for my post 5 spring wreaths. :) xo
Hi Kathy! You're so lucky to find pool noodles out already...there is not one in sight in my neck of the woods! Your wreath looks so festive..love that aqua color...reminds me of Caribbean Waters! Thanks for sharing!
woow! You are real artist Kathy..

That's an ingenious use for pool noodles, and if the yarn fades, the wreath is easily remade. Your colors are fresh and pretty for this time of year.
Btw - when I look closely, I can see Ed's pawprints all over that thing!
Lovely, Kathy. We could use some Spring weather here soon.
Love your burlap flowers! I'm so over winter right now, but am torn between what I should be working on. St. Patrick, Easter, Spring? I need to get myself together and make something real quick!
I love it. Thanks for the play-by-play. I'm putting this on my list for today.
Kathy,
I love this wreath, love the colors, the flowers are awesome!!!

You're a genius! Plain and simple! I love fabric stiffener too. I think it's totally under utilized and I was actually going to use it recently on burlap also. Now I'm convinced it is a great idea.

That's so gorgeous Kathy,
This is so adorable, Kathy! I'm crazy-nuts for turquoise this year. Good to know about using the wire hanger to hold the pool noodle together -- the one I did last year keeps going into an oval shape!
I love the wreath and it does look easy.

I hope to see you there! Thanks for sharing this awesome creation of yours! Have a great weekend!
Oh my goodness...you might have just saved my life with that stiffener tip. I've had a bunch of burlap that I've been using for various projects and it always gets all over everything when I cut it up and is super difficult to work with (though I love it so). But stiffener could be the solution to my problems! I just love the look of burlap so much...now it doesn't have to be a hassle to work with it. Thank you!
And your wreath is absolutely stunning. Love that bright blue!
Love the wreath! So creative, cute, and beautiful. Love the colors!
