Quick and Easy Decorative Wicker Storage Basket Makeover

Hi, friends!  Today I am sharing my wicker storage basket makeover.  My mother gave me this basket back in the fall, and it has been wonderful place to store my craft supplies in that I use often.  It is the perfect size to hold  a lot of "stuff", but didn't look so great in my family room.  So, I decided to give it a makeover that would blend in with my decor.

Decorative Wicker Storage Basket Makeover

Here is a very bad before photo that I took with my phone.  I was about to spray it and forgot that I hadn't taken a before pic.  It had a beige cloth liner in it that I am still using, but I glued it to the inside of the basket.

I used Krylon Brushed Metallic Spray Paint.  It took 3 cans of paint, and it actually could have used one more coat.  It takes a lot of paint to get in all of those grooves.  I'm a huge fan of  Martha Stewart's Cast Bronze, but brushing this basket would have been a major task.  It was spray paint to the rescue. I was so excited that Krylon had a spray paint that was very close.

Once the paint was dry, I added this beautiful ribbon that I actually won in an awesome giveaway from my sweet friend, Peggy at PJH Designs.  I still have so many great items to use from that giveaway.  I had just the right amount to go around the basket.  I was meant to be used just for that!  I used my glue gun to glue the ribbon on.

If you have followed my blog for very long, you know that I am an antique skeleton key addict!!  I can't get enough of them.  I thought about adding a bow, rosettes or the initial M that looked good on it.  I decided to go with a mini frame with an antique key that I had made awhile back.  It was the perfect fit on the basket.  I also hot glued the frame on it, too.

If you love antique keys like I do, you can check out these ideas here and here for ways to decorate with them.

I love the new look, and now it blends in perfectly with my decor.  This is a super easy way to give a new look to any basket.  Now,  if I could just find a few more places to store the rest of my crafting supplies.

Thank you so much for stopping by!  I always  love hearing from you.   I hope you have a wonderful, blessed week.

I actually have a basket sort of like this one that is plain white. I keep it in a closet because it's too plain! I guess you can figure out the rest. I think I'll spray it to match the sewing studio--can never have enough baskets there, right? Thanks for the info; I love the key.

Kathy, this is amazing. I would love to make something like this. I think this would be really cute and elegant to take on a picnic, or to create some type of gift. Actually, my cousin's birthday is coming up ... i might this out, and add some memory stuff in it. Thanks for the great idea!
