A Chair Makeover and My Cat Ed

I rescued this chair from my aunt's storage building.  It had belonged to my grandparents, and she didn't want to get rid of it.  So she stuck it in storage.  I claimed it the minute  I laid eyes on it.  I love the shape and size of the chair, and the pattern on the back.  It's a vintage from Tell City.  It's made of Mahogany and so heavy.  I had forgotten just how heavy, until I attempted to take it to my deck for some outside photos.

Other than the arms being worn out, it was in excellent shape.  I had purchased some fabric for a totally different project, but the more I looked at it I decided I would cover the chair with it.  I have read lots of tutorials on reupholstering, but I mostly just winged this one!!  :)  So this post is mostly a before and after.   It involved lots of staples, patience and the glue gun.  Here is the after!

Christmas in the Mail

One really fun thing about blogging is the awesome giveaways you can sign up to win.  I was so thrilled when I won the Priscila Peters Decor custom chevron pillow covers.  I got to to choose two pillow covers in the size and color I wanted.

It was like Christmas in the mail when I opened up the package to see the gorgeous pillow covers.  I chose the spicy orange and cream ivory, and I love them.  I am chevron crazy these days.  I can't seem to get enough of it.  The spicy orange is such a rich color.

ASCP Sewing Machine Table Makeover

I finally got around to marking off another summer project on my to do list. I couldn't part with my grandmother's sewing machine, so I decided to use it to fill in the space for a needed table on the landing of my stairs.

Here is the before picture.

 A while back, I purchased this picture at an estate sale.  I paid $20 for it.  When I got it home, I realized it still had the Kirkland's price tag on the back for $200!  That's why I love estate sales!!!    I wanted to match the paint on the table to the frame around the picture.    I used Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Coco and Old Ochre.    I decided to use the picture frame design on top of the desk.  Because there are many color variations in the frame, I mixed the two colors for the top and the drawer, while using the Coco on the the rest of the table.

First, I painted the base of the table with the Coco, and then I painted the mixed paints on the top and the drawer.  Then comes the tricky part!  Taping off the design.

I left 2 inches between each square, and then I placed the dots in the center of each square.  Lining up the stickers evenly was the hardest part of the whole process!

IMPORTANT tip on using the dots!!  I have used the stickers before to paint polka dots.  To make sure they peeled off easily, I kept sticking them to an old shirt until they weren't too sticky.  This makes the project so much faster and easier when it's time to peel those stickers off.

Here it is all decked out in the colorful stickers.  :)

Because I was trying to match the colors in the picture, I did more of a dry brush than a fully loaded paint brush.  The picture below shows the 2 dots after being pulled off.

The fun (or is it scary?) part is pulling off all the tape and stickers, to see if the design in your head actually worked on the table.  Here is the completed table top.  I do love it, but I do wish I had put the tape about a half inch closer.

I was amazed how much that little design added to the landing.  I have tried for several days to get better pictures, but I decided that wasn't going to happen.  There is a skylight right above the table.  It's too bright in the day, and too dark at night.  So I've added a few day and night pictures.  :)

I did stick with the clear wax on this project.  I love the dark wax, but I wanted to stick with the lighter color.

Shabby Chic Jewelry Organizer

My daughter is a Pinterest addict, just like her mother!!  I have been promising her that I would make her a jewelry organizer for months now.  Last week I found the perfect frame at an estate sale for a $1.00!  The frame was in excellent shape, and Lauren wanted to keep it gold.  What????  No spray paint?  No ASCP?  The paint addict that I am, I did add a touch of purple to blend with her room.

Well, after months of waiting on me to make this, it is finally completed!  I decided to use a piece of screening material for the earrings, and I added hooks across the bottom of the frame for bracelets and necklaces.

Scrabble Sports Frame & Baseball Wreath

Trying to decorate a college age student's room can be so difficult. Since my son actually lives in a rental house while at college, he took his bed and belongings with him. When we moved into our house, I wanted to make his room still feel like home.

He is a sports fanatic majoring in sports journalism. He also loves his Dallas Cowboys and Texas Rangers. When he left for college, he took his seriously falling apart Cowboys comforter with him. He wouldn't let me buy him a new even though I tried. Guess what's on his bed now? Yep, a new Cowboys comforter. I can't wait to see if he tries to take it with him when he returns to school in the fall! :)   Anyway, I decided to go with a sports theme in his room.  I came up with the idea to use Scrabble tiles to make a sports related picture for his desk.

 I actually started out using this polka dotted paper, but decided he really wouldn't care for the polka dots. :)

This is such a quick, easy way to add a little team spirit to your home!

Since he was a baseball player, I also added a baseball wreath with his number on it.  The "girly" side of me is fighting the urge to add a bow on there somewhere.   I think I see cutting up that Rangers towel in the near future to add to the wreath!!!!

baseball wreath, baseball wreath tutorial, how to make a baseball wreath

 I was so lucky that one of my student's dad is a college baseball coach.  I told him if he ever had some old baseballs to dispose of, I would gladly take them off his hands.  To my excitement, the next day my sweet student brought me a bag full of baseballs.  Isn't that the life of a DIYer?  I was so excited to have a bag full of old, very used baseballs!!!!  LOL    I also bought some new ones to mix in with the "not so gently" used baseballs.  It gave it more of a rugged look.  My son loved it!

A little piece of info for anyone who wants to make a baseball wreath.  The new practice balls were not to difficult to drill through, but those real baseballs are a pain to drill all the way through.  My wrist was sore the next day.  The wreath is very heavy, so make sure it is securely attached to the wall.

I have a few more baseball projects to share, and the Annie Sloan Chalk Painted furniture.  From the looks of this college student's room at the moment,  I won't be posting that until he goes back to school.

I hope you've enjoyed the sport projects.  I appreciate you stopping by more than you will ever know!!!  Have a blessed and wonderful week.

Itty-Bitty Table Makeover

Hi, friends!  I have another great estate sale find to share with you.  This is from a sale several months ago, but I scored big with 3 small tables.  This sale was held over until Sunday, because of the amount of "stuff" in that house.   It was amazing.  I think that's one of the reasons I love hitting estate sales.  You never really know what you're going to find when you walk through the door.  Not only can you find great deals, but you also get to see the houses, too.  Anyway, they opened at noon, and everything was going half price.  Even though I really wanted these tables on Saturday, it's hard to pay full price, when you know they will be half off the next day provided nobody else saw the potential of these tables and paid full price.  Because I had already checked everything out the day before, I knew it exactly what I wanted.  The minute the doors were opened, I sent hubby after this cute little table, and I ran (really I did, LOL) up the stairs to get 2 other tables that I will share later.

I couldn't believe it, but all 3 tables were still there!!   I did a little Happy Dance!!!  We also were  trying to get my daughter a very nice jewelry chest, but it found some love before half price day.  Four people asked me where I found those tables as I was standing in the checkout line, because they wanted some.  Yep dear friends, I was very greedy and snatched up all three!!!!  So glad I did, too.

alt="Painted and stenciled table makeover brown and gold"

Shame on me for not taking a before pic!!!  It was just a plain wood table, but very sturdy.  Definitely not something you would want in your house without a little TLC.    Since this table was done before my love for Annie Sloan Chalk paint, it was spray painted.  I used Rust-Oleum's Painter's Touch in Satin espresso for the base and Krylon's Metallic Brilliant gold for the drawer and stencils.  I wanted my stenciled work to be the same color as my base, so I had to get creative.  Let me share my little secret with you........you can use spray paint to stencil.  I folded up a piece of wax paper and sprayed the paint directly on the wax paper.  Be sure you are outside for this part, though.  The wax paper doesn't absorb the paint, but you have to work quickly before the paint dries.  I just spray small amounts, and repeat frequently.  Just dip sponge brush in paint, and apply to stencil.

 Here is a picture of my half bath without the table.  That little blank spot needed something, and the table fit the bill perfectly.

 It is  perfect for that small area, and added so much color to my bathroom.  Another added bonus.....a place to put more "lovelies".  : )

            alt="stenciled table makeover"

Here is a few pictures that I took outside, so you can better see the details.

                                          I love the way the gold pops against the dark brown.

alt="stenciled table makeover"

This cute little lamp was also bought at an estate sale, and I absolutely love it!!

                                               alt="stenciled table makeover"

Now,  if I could just find a way to plug it in and actually use it!!!!  Here's the problem........the plug is hidden underneath the towels in the middle of the wall.

alt="stenciled table makeover"

 Since I don't want to use an extension cord half way across the bathroom, I guess the lamp is there just to look pretty.  Do you any of you in blogland have any brilliant ideas to solve this dilemma???  I would love to hear from you.  I really wish the builder would have done a better job with the plug placements.

   I am thrilled you stopped by my little blog!!  Thanks for coming, and I hope you come back soon!  I will be sharing the other two tables very soon.
