Burlap Candy Cane Wreath Tutorial

I've been wanting to make a candy cane wreath with some red and white burlap I had.  I didn't like the small foam candy wreath forms.  I decided to use a pool noodle.  The only problem was how to keep the shape.  I tried floral wire, etc. and then my husband said why don't you just use a coat hanger?  Brilliant!!  It worked perfectly.

alt="Burlap Candy Cane Wreath Tutorial using Pool Noodle"

It all started with a pool noodle!

alt="Burlap Candy Cane Wreath Tutorial using Pool Noodle"

I cut about six inches off the pool noodle, and then ran the heaviest coat hanger I could find through the middle.  I had to bend it in about four or five places at the top until I got the shape I wanted.

alt="Burlap Candy Cane Wreath Tutorial using Pool Noodle"

I cut the burlap in strips about six inches wide.  Using floral pins I started at the side, bunched up the burlap and then added a floral pin.  I went at an angle to make the stripes.

This project did take lots of floral pins.

Here's an up close of the pins.  After I finished each row, I "fluffed" each piece.  I did have to place the pins at angle, because this noodle was hollow and I wanted to make sure they were secure.

Here is a completed photo, but before I added the bow.  I really wanted to add a green burlap bow, but can't find green anywhere!  So I just used some of the fabric I had left over from my Christmas pillows.

I found the cute little Christmas flower and candy cane appliques at Hobby Lobby and added those on the bow.  I am going back to buy more of the flowers.  I love them.

  5. I found green burlap at Hobby Lobby and used my 40%off coupon. Course it might depend on the area whether they have it or not. Also saw it at Jo-Ann's.
Your candy cane is absolutely incredible. You must have alot of patience to do all that with the burlap. The bow you used is a gorgeous contrast on the candy cane.
    Happy Thanksgiving.
