My Great Estate Sale Find

Great Lantern in Need of a Little TLC

As a  DIYer, you see the beauty in the neglected things as others walk right on by!  I found this adorable, but in desperate need of attention lantern.  The best thing about it for me is the fact that it is very heavy.  We live on the lake.   We frequently have heavy wind so I have to place sturdy decor on my deck.  This cute little lantern fit the bill perfectly.  It just needs a little TLC.  Oh yea, what made it even better was the $4.00 price tag.  It had my name written all over it.  Here's what I found....

Oh yea, did I mention there was a snake skin inside that thing????  YIKES.  Yes, made hubby take care of that!  Snake skin gone, the next step was to remove all the rust.

I coated the entire lantern in the works to remove the rust.  I let it sit for about 10 minutes, then scrubbed the rust areas with a toothbrush.  It did a great job of removing all that rust.

Amazing, huh?  Of course, there is nothing that a little paint can't fix!  On this project, I decided to go with something in blue.  I'm in the process of giving my deck a makeover in colorful blues and coral.  I will share that project in the near future.  Hopefully, very soon.  LOL  So here's the color I chose.......

Krylon's Blue Ocean Breeze.  It is such a pretty summer color, and just what I needed to add a splash of color to my deck.  I am thrilled with the way it turned out!

Now I'm thinking it needs some bling on the top!  Looks like my next project will be stenciling a cool design on the top.  Can't wait to show you how that turns out.

Remember to always look for the beauty potential no matter how bad it looks!

Thank you so much for stopping by!!

Hi Kathy, Mercy, I must have lost it, as I think I attempted to post on this one the other day. I lost it with the SS mentioned (snake skin). Loved your ability to move beyond that and make the lantern better than new. Beautiful. I'm following you on Linky and hope you are or will follow me.
Thanks, Helen
